Dr. Jim Carter and Dr. Lorraine Bray Awards at Athabasca University

The Dr. Jim Carter and Dr. Lorraine Bray Awards will be distributed to Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students registered in the Master of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Management programs. This award is for an applicant whose professional achievements demonstrate an extraordinary passion for business, entrepreneurship and community.

David Gabriel Tuccaro Awards for Indigenous Students

David Gabriel Tuccaro is a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation in Fort Chipewyan. He is the president and CEO of seven successful companies that create opportunities for Indigenous people.

Developed and taught by leading academic faculty and business experts, Athabasca University’s undergraduate and graduate courses provide the expertise and skills to succeed in today’s fast-paced and globally connected world of business. David Tuccaro has established these Awards with Athabasca University, which will be distributed annually to Indigenous students who are attending Athabasca University’s Faculty of Business as undergraduate or graduate students.

David Gabriel Tuccaro is a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation in Fort Chipewyan. He is the President and CEO of seven successful companies that create opportunities for Indigenous people. Mr. Tuccaro has sat on the Board of the Regional Health Authority, the Alberta Chamber of Resources, the National Task Force on Aboriginal Development Financing, and contributed as a member of the National Task Force on Oil Sands Strategies. David was also instrumental in the formation of the Northeast Alberta Aboriginal Business Association (NAABA), where he was the president. He is also the recipient of a National Aboriginal Achievement Award for his contribution in the area of Business and Commerce. He received a Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and was a 2008/2009 finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Prairies Region. Mr. Tuccaro has been included in Financial Post Magazine as “Top 40 under 40”, and recognized as one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People.

David Gabriel Tuccaro Bursary

This scholarship was established in 2013 through a generous personal contribution made by Mr. David Gabriel Tuccaro, Chair and member of the Board of Directors of Indspire and an outstanding champion for Indigenous education in Canada. The bursary will be distributed to Indigenous students from across Canada with demonstrated financial need with a preference given to students studying in business programs.
