About Build Nova Scotia: Boat Harbour Remediation Project

Build Nova Scotia is a provincial agency whose responsibility includes the cleanup of Boat Harbour, or A’se’k in Mi’kmaq. A’se’k was a tidal estuary connected to the Northumberland Strait. The Pictou Landing First Nation (PLFN) community lives beside A’se’k and knows it as “the other living place” or “the other room.” In 1967 the tidal estuary was turned into an effluent treatment basin. Much of the community use of A’se’k land and water was lost.
