This Award

This bursary celebrates my 2X great Grandmother, Koulikkwa of the X’wisten people. She died in Bridge River in 1926 leaving 8 children and hundreds of descendants today. Her story was one of tragedy and of celebration. She was much loved, remembered for her amazing handwork, a short, quiet, gentle person with tenacity, independence, and willpower. Living between two worlds, her children attending residential schools. This was not my story, but is my history. I am grateful for inheriting her creativity, work ethic and love of the land, and glad to do this small thing to make things better for another.
