Govt. of Alberta Indigenous Educator Student Award

The Alberta Indigenous Educator Student Award was designed to increase the number of Indigenous education professionals in the province. This award is for Alberta Indigenous post-secondary students in the following fields of study: Bachelor of Education, Masters of Education, Doctorate of Education, Education Assistant, Native Studies (with an expression of interest for an after degree in education), and Indigenous Language Programs. The award can also include Indigenous students attending Alberta’s Comprehensive Community Institutions (colleges) and First Nations Colleges who are enrolled in Indigenous Language and Culture programs, as well as Early Learning and Child Care, Education Assistant, and Education programs that transfer to accredited teacher preparation programs. The goal is to encourage more Alberta Indigenous students to become Education professionals and to serve as role-models in their community.

The Government of Alberta rewards excellence in learning, leadership and other categories through scholarship and awards programs. In 2015-16, over 50,000 Alberta learners received nearly $90 million in scholarships and awards, including new Indigenous Awards implemented in 2015- 16. Govt. of Alberta Indigenous Post-Secondary Student Award

These awards are designed to support ongoing success of Alberta Indigenous post-secondary students and encourage them to continue and complete their studies. Awards are open to all levels and areas of post-secondary study, including Indigenous students attending Alberta’s First Nations Colleges enrolled in Indigenous Language and Culture programs as well as Teaching/Education programs (including Early Learning and Child Care and Teacher’s Assistant). These awards will help Alberta Indigenous students maximize their potential and serve as role models in their communities.

Awards are for Indigenous Albertans enrolled in full-time post-secondary study. Recipients will be selected based on financial need, demonstrated involvement in their Indigenous community, academic achievement and other measures of merit.

Any programs of study at the post-secondary level, including Indigenous students attending Alberta’s First Nations Colleges enrolled in Indigenous Language and Culture programs as well as Teaching/ Education programs (including Early Learning and Child Care and Teacher’s Assistant).First Nation Colleges: University nuhelot’ine thaiyots’inistameyimâkanak Blue Quills, Maskwacis Cultural College, Old Sun Community College, Red Crow Community College and Yellowhead Tribal College.
